About the Planetarium
After helping us get the donation of the digital projector (the first in sub-Saharan Africa) Dave Weinrich visited the Ghana Science Project in May 2008 when the dome building was nearly complete. He begain training local staff in Astronomy and the use of the MediaGlobe digital projector. Stanley, a Physics graduate form Legon, has been our main projector operator. In January Dave brought us a StarLab projector which can be used in conjunction with a portable dome for outreach visits to schools.
After Dave, Laura, who came to Ghana for six weeks from October to December 2008, was our first volunteer. Among other activities, Laura ran the first school group event, created the December newsletter, and produced leaflets, flyers, T-shirt designs, and implemented a number of creative ideas. She also brought us our next two volunteers.
Our new volunteers in January are Frances and Peter who are here for about six weeks until the beginning of March. They helped organise our official opening event on the 22nd January, and are planning various activities for the International Year of Astronomy in Ghana (IYA2009) including various school events. The picture shows Fran and Pete.
